As an ADOLESCENT Holly was awkward with frizzy hair, so not surprisingly her best friends were characters in TV series. During her degree she told her creative writing tutor she was ditching poetry to focus on screenwriting. She had just started watching My So-Called Life and it had a big impact on her. Her tutor did not know what ‘a Jordan Catalano’ was and advised against this decision. She ignored him. This adolescent stubbornness worked out.
Nowadays Holly is best known for creating teen series GET EVEN for BBC iPLAYER and NETFLIX based on the novel by Gretchen McNeil, nominated by KIDSCREEN for Best Teen (live action) Series 2020 and its spin off series REBEL CHEER SQUAD. She also served as lead writer and creator of BAFTA, RTS, BROADCAST and ROCKIE nominated series THE ATHENA. Previous credits include story editor and writer on DANCE ACADEMY 2 which (among others) won a LOGIE and an AWGIE. Holly also wrote and created the original series NEARLY FAMOUS for E4 and was on the writing team for BAFTA nominated SUGAR RUSH. Holly has also discovered a new range of frizz easing products for her hair and is slightly less awkward.
As an ADOLESCENT, Alison spent much of her time wishing she looked like Debbie Harry and planning to be a hot shot lawyer like Susan Dey in LA Law. She ended up taking a job at the BBC instead and after script editing big hitters like EASTENDERS and CASUALTY, she persuaded someone to let her produce. Her credits include Peter Moffat’s award-winning NORTH SQUARE for Channel 4, THE BILL and MONDAY MONDAY for ITV1, and BERKELEY SQUARE for BBC1. She also executive produced the period children’s drama HETTY FEATHER (BAFTA nominated and Banff Rockie winner) and REBEL CHEER SQUAD for Netflix/iPlayer. Alison still doesn’t look like Debbie Harry and never became a hot shot lawyer, but is at peace with that now.
